The Setting

We are located amid rolling hills and valleys on the outskirts of the city of Exeter in England’s beautiful southwest county of Devon.

Although near to the city with all its facilities, including restaurants, museums and theatres, the retreat itself is in a completely rural setting. We are surrounded by farms and country lanes with plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling and are also within easy reach of the breath-taking Devon coastline and the wild, open moorlands of Dartmoor.

The local area

High Meadow Retreat is located in Devon’s quiet and idyllic countryside.

It is a place of outstanding natural beauty that boasts hills, valleys, farmland, rivers, beaches, moorlands, charming villages, and larger market towns and cities. Just outside the front door of the guest house, there are miles of fantastic country walks and cycling routes which offer stunning views of hills and farmland.

The city of Exeter, less than 10 minutes away by car, is a small city that packs a big punch. Its fascinating visitor attractions include the magnificent Cathedral, imposing Roman walls and a beautiful Quayside. There are also plenty of shops, boutiques, theatres and restaurants.

We are a short drive from the beautiful Jurassic Coast, where you will find pebbly and sandy beaches, scenic coastline and bustling seaside towns. Dartmoor is also within easy reach, where you can enjoy wild, open moorland and deep river valleys, with a rich history and rare wildlife. It is great for long walks and gentle strolls alike. There are a wide variety of other places nearby, many of which are free to visit.
